AESEDA News :: AESEDA Welcomes Research Intern

On February 8, Jennie Karalewich joined AESEDA as its first Research Intern. Jennie will be conducting research with Dr. Petra Tschakert for the next five months. She will assist Dr. Tschakert in the planning of a summer 2007 workshop in Ghana focused on sustainable mining and she will be writing a thesis on the geography of mercury and other contaminants from small scale mining in rivers in Ghana.

A native of Pittsburgh, Jennie earned a B.S. in Geography from Penn State in 2005. As an undergraduate, she minored in GIS and completed a Semester at Sea program. She is currently pursuing a M.S. in Natural Resource Management from the Universiteit Utrecht (U.U.) in the Netherlands. She has previously completed research at U.U. in tandem with Warsaw Agricultural University in Warsaw, Poland, where she expanded previous methodologies dealing with flood determination in Eastern Poland.

During her internship, Jennie will be housed in 201 Walker Building so please stop by and give her a warm AESEDA welcome!
